On 10th October 2025, I came 2nd place in the Margate Bookie Slam. Chris Matthewman was a very worthy winner and Jake Nathan was an extraordinary headliner.
Review of Safe Ground by Rosie Johnston
I'm always thanked for writing reviews but really it's a pleasure to have someone want to share their work with you. This is how I felt when I reviewed my friend's latest collection, Safe Ground (by Rosie Johnston).
Review of Where the Land Forgets Itself by Connor Sansby
Brilliantly organised by the prestigious poet Rosie Johnston, this poetry even was absolutely packed and complimented the natural surroundings so beautifully. I felt that myself, Nancy, Melina and Rosie were all so diverse in our material and the open mic was full of familiar and new faces. It was like stepping into a different world for a short time.
Broadstairs Workshop
Setareh facilitated the workshop, 'Letters as Poetry' at the Baptist Church, Broadstairs, for those who were suffering from addiction, or had done in the past. It was an intimate, emotional session where letter writing was used as a way to pave the way for writing a poem.
We looked at the poem 'Recipe' by Maggie Harris, from her collection From Berbice to Broadstairs, 'Letter to my Old House', by Valerie Tyler, Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder and So Long a Letter by Mariama Bâ.
Ramsgate Pride
Setareh was the co-organiser and compere of the event 'We Will Not Be Silenced' at Ramsgate Pride 2025, which featured a diverse range of acts including poetry, prose, music and rap. This event was well attended and enjoyed at The Wooden Box, Ramsgate!
Editorial Assistant, Seaside Gothic
I have been working with local literary magazine Seaside Gothic for the latest issue as the Editorial Assistant. I look forward to working with them further in the future.
Local Author Showcase, Faversham Literary Festival
I delivered four workshops at Ramsgate Arts school, two for Reception class and two for Year 1. The texts that we looked at were This is a Poem that Heals Fish by Jean-Pierre Siméon and 'Cool Rainforest Rain' by Maggie Harris. The children enjoyed some reading, some interactive presentations and some music and instruments.
